How to Cut Acrylic Saw Blades
Acrylic material is a hard material that has several names beyond the basic acrylic. Acrylic is also called Plexiglas, Acrylite, Plastikolite and several other names. The basic material for each of these items is the acrylic. Though the use of acrylic in saw blades is not the most common use, there are some saw blades made with acrylic materials. When cutting these blades for any reason, it is important to use the appropriate tools to prevent the blades from breaking.

1
Put on goggles and ear plugs. The goggles are designed to protect the eyes in case any acrylic material flies up during the cutting process. The ear plugs protect the ears from loud, harsh noises that occur while cutting through the tough acrylic material.

2
Select an electric saw blade. According to Plastics Magazine, a small diameter saw blade is the best option for cutting acrylic because it is not costly and will not burn the acrylic as much as a larger blade.

3
Attach the blade to the electric saw. Exact methods differ for each saw brand and type.
-
4
Turn on the saw. Set the speed to 20 feet per minute or as close to the speed as possible for the specific saw. Carefully feed the acrylic saw blade under the saw according to cutting needs and cut through the material. Turn off the blade when finished.

Tips & Warnings
Acrylic can be cut using a scoring tool called a scriber that is dragged across the acrylic material to weaken the material along the line. It then folds and breaks along the line.
