How to Set Up an RV Satellite thumbnail
Satellite dishes receive the best signal in open areas.

Setting up a satellite for your RV is an easy process for anyone who has dealt with satellite system installation in the past. This task is time consuming but worth the effort, especially if you are looking to save some money. The satellite dish is set up to receive satellite signals and translate them to the low noise block or LNB. The signal then carries through the receiver box in your RV into the television.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the satellite dish on the roof. Choose a spot with ample room for the dish to turn completely around and fold down easily while maintaining the shortest coaxial cable length possible.

    • 2

Hold the mounting plate for the dish against the roof where you want it positioned. Uncap the paint marker and mark through each of the drill holes.

    • 3

Drill all of the holes and screw down the mounting plate for your satellite dish on the roof with the screws and screwdriver. Push the base of the mast into the ground firmly and apply caulking around all of the screws with the caulking gun.

    • 4

Drill a hole for the coaxial cable then connect it from the low noise block into the satellite dish in accordance with the dish's instruction manual. Screw the connectors onto the low noise block and the satellite dish as needed.

    • 5

Plug one end of the RG-6 coaxial cable into the input slot labeled "SAT IN" on the back of the receiver box. Plug the remaining end straight into the outdoor power jack located on one of the side walls of your RV.

    • 6

Coat the wire connections at the bases with caulk using the caulking gun. Position the receiver box in a dry, well-ventilated space.

    • 7

Connect one end of the RG-59 coaxial cable into the "TV OUT" port on the backside of the receiver box, connect the remaining end into your TV.

    • 8

Position the satellite dish by following the instructions detailed in your owner's manual. Program the coordinates for the azimuth, tilt and elevation into the receiver display accordingly.
