How to Find a Christian Psychiatrist

How to Find a Christian Psychiatrist thumbnail
Christian psychiatrists are available.

Some people may find it easier to talk to a psychiatrist about their problems if they know the psychiatrist is a Christian. Knowing a psychiatrist shares the same belief system or spiritual values as you do can make a difference in your ability to accept counsel. Finding a Christian psychiatrist can be a matter of asking around and doing your own research. By using your available resources, you may be able to find a qualified Christian psychiatrist.

Instructions

  1. Recommendations

    • 1

Ask a Christian for a recommendation. Your pastor or another mature Christian may know someone personally. They may be able to recommend someone in their local congregation. If not, they may be able to contact someone who does know a Christian psychiatrist willing to take on a new client.

    • 2

Ask your health insurance agency representative for the names of Christian psychiatrists in their network, if applicable. They may be able to give you this information if any of their psychiatrists have submitted this information to them.

    • 3

Contact local psychiatrists and ask their receptionists if the psychiatrists in their offices are Christians. They may be willing to reveal this information to you. Also, even if the psychiatrists in that office aren't Christians, they may be able to recommend a Christian psychiatrist.

    • 4

Search online for a Christian psychiatrist. Type "Christian psychiatrist" and the name of your city or town in the search engine and consider the results. Verify the chosen psychiatrist's credentials through the state licensing body to see if the psychiatrist is Board certified. Find out as much as possible about the psychiatrist's professional credentials and affiliations as possible.
