How to Download Mapquest to Garmin

Mapquest is an online service that provides directions and maps. While Garmin GPS units typically have the latest mapping details for roadways in the United States, the actual roadways may be altered due to road construction or detours. Uploading a Mapquest map to a Garmin can be done through several steps.

Instructions

1. Download the Garmin Communicator Plugin from the Garmin website (www.garmin.com). This plug-in is required to download Mapquest maps and directions to your Garmin GPS unit.

2. Connect your Garmin GPS unit to your computer through the USB port. To locate the USB port on your Garmin, look for a diagram featuring a long straight line with two smaller lines branching off from the main line.

3. Navigate your web browser to Mapquest.com. Enter the address into the search field. If you are trying to receive driving directions, select the "Directions" tab located above the main map. After you have entered the necessary information, click "Get Directions."

4. Review the map to determine if the directions are accurate. If so, click the "Send" button located at the top of the screen. This will open a menu box.

5. Select the "Send to GPS" option located on the far left of the menu box. Enter in the name of the map and the Garmin GPS model you have from the drop-down box. Review the information to ensure it is correct, and press the "Send" button in the lower left-hand side of the box.
