How to Cut Formica Board
Formica board is pressboard or plywood with Formica bonded to the surface. It is a pre-made countertop material. Manufacturers use laminate adhesives to secure Formica to the surface, eliminating the need to add Formica to a countertop. Formica is a popular choice in countertop material among homeowners and contractors. It is available in a wide range of colors and patterns, making it easy to fit into any decorating theme. Formica is easy to maintain, clean and care for, but it does scratch and burn easily. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1
Measure the cutting area with a tape measure and mark the Formica board with a dark-colored marker. Use a straightedge to draw long lines on the board.
-
2
Place masking tape over the cutting lines and redraw the line. Masking tape helps to avoid cracking, splintering and chipping on the Formica during the cutting process.
-
-
3
Place the board between two sawhorses and clamp it down to hold it firm and steady.
-
4
Set a circular saw with a fine-tooth blade to a blade depth of 1/4 inch deeper than the thickness of the Formica board. A fine-tooth saw blade has more teeth than standard saw blades, which results in a smoother cut. Make sure the saw is unplugged before setting the blade depth.
-
5
Cut along the line with the circular saw. Allow the saw to cut slowly through the Formica; do not push the saw along or you will damage the edges of the board.
