There are various methods to determine an email address for a business or for a particular person within a business. At a bare minimum, you must know the name of the business. From the business name, you can perform a search to determine the website of the company. The website can lead you to additional information. The process to determine the individual email address of a person at a business is more involved. If you have the person's name, it is usually possible to find his email address.

Determine the website for the business. A search engine such as Google can often provide a business website if you have the name of the business. Type the name of the business and any other identifying information, such as a location, in your preferred search engine.

Check the contact page on the business website for a general email address. Most business websites have a "contacts" or "about" page with an email address for general contact. A general email address may suffice, or you can email there for a more specific address for someone within the organization.

Call the business and ask for an email address. If you can only find a telephone number, place a call and ask for an appropriate contact and email address to suit the nature of your inquiry.

Perform a search using a more specific search engine. AT&T's Anywho search engine can be used to locate details about a business once you have the name. If you have the website, plug the domain portion into a search engine like Allwhois.

Query your preferred search engine more specifically. This is useful if you have the domain name of the business and you are searching for the email address of a specific person. Try searching for the person's exact name in quotes along with the name or domain name of the business. For example, "John Smith" "Business Name" may yield results.

Search for the general form of email addresses at the business, and you may be able to deduce the address of an individual. For example, search for "@example.com" in your favorite search engine. This may yield the exact email address you need, but it also may reveal the generic form of email address used at the business, such as firstname.lastname@example.com. It can be easy to deduce the email address of your recipient if there is a common convention for email addresses at the company.
