How to Look Up a Tennessee Boat Registration Number

To boat in Tennessee you must display your boat registration number.

If you have a mechanically powered boat and use it on Tennessee waterways, you must ensure that it is registered. To register a boat in Tennessee, you have to fill out a registration form, which you can get from the dealer who sold you your boat or from a County Clerk's office. Once you register your boat, you will be issued a boat registration number. Legally, this number must be permanently attached to each side of the bow of the boat and be clearly displayed. To find a boat registration number, use an online database.

Instructions

1. Open your Internet browser and navigate to the Marine Title webpage.

2. Click on "Database," which is one of the ten tabs at the top of the Marine Title webpage. You'll be taken to another webpage where you will see "BoatScope" near the middle of the page. Below "BoatScope" click on "Ordering Information," which is underlined and displayed in red lettering.

3. Choose the 30-day, 180-day, or 360-day membership depending on your needs and click the "Purchase" button under the option you choose.

4. Type in the information that is required of you on the next page. You'll be asked to choose the credit card type that you will use to pay for the service, the name on the card, your address, your zip code, the card number, the expiration date, and the card ID. Click "Process Payment," located at the bottom right side of the page when you have finished entering the required information. If your credit card clears the payment processing stage, you will be given a data access key.

5. Go to the BoatScope page again and click "Member Login," located beside the "Ordering Information" button. Enter the data access key that was given to you. You'll then be taken to the database's webpage that allows you to search for boats. To search all of the boat registration numbers in Tennessee, type "TN" in the dialogue box under "State" and click "Vessel Summary." You'll be given a list of all of the boats registered in Tennessee and their registration numbers.
