How to Turn on the Full View When Using a Web Browser to Show a PowerPoint Presentation

Microsoft PowerPoint is a popular presentation tool included in the Office suite of productivity products. It lets you view, create and make changes to slide-based presentations that can be displayed on a computer screen or through a projector. In many cases, when you attempt to view a PowerPoint file in a Web browser, the file automatically opens in a PowerPoint program window instead of the browser. If you want to change this behavior, make a single edit to the Windows registry. Once the proper method is enabled, launching a presentation in full view in a browser becomes a quick task.

Instructions

  1. Adjust Registry Settings

    • 1

Close all open Web browser windows.

    • 2

Click the Windows "Start" button and select the Start Menu search box. If you do not see this option, click the "Run" item instead.

    • 3

Type "regedt32" (without quotation marks) in the resulting field, press the "Enter" key and confirm your choice if prompted by Windows. The Windows Registry Editor appears on your screen within a few seconds.

    • 4

Look to the left side of the window and then double-click the top-level folder labeled "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT."

    • 5

Click once on the "PowerPoint.Show.8" sub-folder.

    • 6

Look to the right side of the window and double-click the "BrowserFlags" registry value.

    • 7

Enter "0" (without quotation marks) in the "Value data" field if you want your browser to open PowerPoint files in the current browser window. To open presentations in a new browser window, enter "8" (without quotation marks) instead.

    • 8

Click "OK" to confirm the change.

    • 9

Click "File" in the top menu bar of the Registry Editor window and select "Exit."

    Launch Presentation in Full View

    • 10

      Open a Web browser window.

    • 11

Navigate to the URL containing the PowerPoint presentation you want to view. If the file does not automatically open in the browser window, click "Open" to confirm your choice.

    • 12

Press the "F11" key near the top of your keyboard. This expands the browser and the presentation it contains into full-screen mode.
