How to Disable Traction Control on a Camaro

Traction control is an important component of the Camaro. This feature helps the Camaro maintain traction on the road while accelerating, turning and braking. Traction is very important to maintain during these crucial driving actions, but you want to turn off traction control in certain circumstances. Conditions like launching your Camaro or racing at the local track with drag-radials, work better with the traction control off so the rear tires can spin and hook-up.

Instructions

    • 1

Get in your Camaro. Look on the center console, right in front of the shifter, for a small, usually square, button with a light strip in the center of it. The letters "TC" or "ASR" should be printed above or below it. This is the traction control switch.

    • 2

Start the car. You can't disable traction control unless the car is running. The light strip in the middle of the traction control button should be illuminated, indicating that traction control is on.

    • 3

Push the traction control button to disable traction control. The light strip in the center of the button should no longer be illuminated. Your dash will display a message reading "TCS Off" or "ASR".

Tips & Warnings

  • Traction control resets each time you shut off your car. If you want traction control off, you must turn it off each time you start your car.

  • Disabling traction control can be dangerous in inclement weather. Traction control should remain on during daily driving and only be turned off when conditions allow.

  • Disabling the anti-lock brake system in an attempt to permanently disable the traction control is dangerous and not recommended. Doing so can get you into a situation where your brakes will lock up and cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
