The Sony Reader is one of the main competitors in the eReader market alongside the Amazon Kindle and the Apple iPad. All allow you to buy, store and read an almost infinite number of ebooks on your device, offering a practical and highly portable way of taking your library with you wherever you go. If your Sony Reader refuses to turn on, however, try the following tips to get it restarted.

      Leave your Sony Reader for several hours. If moisture condensation has built up and is stopping the device from turning on, this will cure it. If this does not work, go to Step 2.

      Check that the battery has not run out. Plug the Reader into the USB port of your computer. Check to see that the red charge indicator that is located on the top of the device on the left is on. If the red light does not appear, go to Step 3.

      Charge your Sony Reader for three hours. Plug the Sony Reader into the USB port of your computer. Unscrew the tip of the supplied stylus. Locate the "Reset" button that can be found on the bottom of the device to the left. Use the the opposite end of the detached stylus tip to reset the Sony Reader by pressing it in to the "Reset" button. The red charge indicator will light up. Your device should now boot up.

Tips & Warnings

  • Resetting your Sony Reader may wipe your markups, bookmarks, highlights and settings information.
