How to Fill Holes in Vinyl Siding
Many homeowners prefer to use vinyl siding on their houses rather than paint. Vinyl is more durable and requires less maintenance. However, vinyl siding can be damaged from harsh weather conditions or freak accidents such as puncturing the vinyl with a ladder or a tool. Small holes in vinyl siding can be repaired by patching the hole or replacing the section of vinyl that has the hole in it. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Utility knife
- Measuring tape
- Replacement vinyl
- Sandpaper
- Polyurethane construction adhesive
- Blue painter's tape
- Paint
- Paint brush
- Foil tape
- Silicone caulk
- Caulk gun

Replace The Damaged Section

Cut out the damaged section with the hole using a utility knife. Measure the cut-out section with a measuring tape.

Purchase or locate a replacement piece of vinyl. Many homeowners keep left over pieces of vinyl when their homes are sided with vinyl. If this is the case with you, search for a spare piece of vinyl in your garage or basement. If you don't have extra pieces of vinyl take the cut-out section to a home supply store. Give them the measurements and ask them to match the color of the old vinyl.

Lightly sand the underside of the vinyl and the patch area.

Apply polyurethane construction glue to the underside of the vinyl section and to the patch area. Align the vinyl piece with the patch area and firmly press in place.

Secure the vinyl section with blue painter's tape. Place extra tape underneath the vinyl patch to catch glue drips. Remove the tape after an hour.
Patching The Hole

Cut out a small piece of vinyl from around the damaged area. Take the piece to a paint store or home supply store. Tell them that you want paint that matches the color of the vinyl.

Cover the hole with foil tape. Foil tape is a pressure adhesive that is flexible and water resistant. Purchase the tape when you purchase the paint.

Apply a bead of silicone caulk around the edges of the foil tape. Allow the caulk to dry.

Paint the patched area with a brush. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat. Feather the edges to blend in with the surrounding vinyl. Allow the paint to dry in between coats.
