Many people dream of leisurely touring America in their very own recreational vehicle. The high cost of an RV, however, can make this dream prohibitively expensive. If you want to vacation in an RV without committing to the high cost of ownership, you can rent one for short or long periods at a much more affordable rate. Many RV rental dealerships exist across America, and they often have deals for extended vacations. You can choose the size and class of RV that works best for your vacation and have the fun of the RV experience without the long-term cost of owning one.

      Determine the size of the RV you need for your tour of America. Generally speaking, an RV up to 19 feet sleeps three people comfortably, 23 to 25 feet sleeps four to five people comfortably, and up to 30 feet sleeps six to seven people with plenty of room.

      Plan your trip. Before you rent, you need a general idea of how long your trip will take so that you can get an accurate rental quote for your vacation. when you plan your travels, look for campgrounds that have RV hookups and campsites and check the availability of the site you would like by either contacting the campground or checking the online availability calendar.       Locate an RV rental facility with a pick-up site near you and make your reservation. Most of these rental companies have online quotes and reservation systems in place, or your can call them directly. Companies charge differently, but generally charge a base fee per day of your rental and an additional fee per mile driven. Many companies offer specials for extended rental periods over seven days and deep discounts for rentals over 30 days.

      Pay for your reservation. Most RV rental companies require you to place a deposit of about $300 at the time of your reservation. In addition, you will be charged at least another $500 at the time of your departure, with the balance of your trip charged when you return your RV.

      Confirm all your campground reservations before you leave for your trip. Call the RV rental company well in advance of your trip and request that you be sent literature about the care and operation of the RV so you can be ready when you pick it up. Confirm your RV rental reservation one week before your scheduled pick-up, and pick up your RV on the day and time agreed upon. Allow a few hours on the first day to practice driving, turning and parking the RV before you set out on the road.
