How to Cut Crown Molding for Inside Corners With a Compound Miter Saw

Dress up any room with a formal crown molding.

Crown molding is an elegant and functional addition to your home decor. It comes in a variety of styles, from formal to a trendy, and provides a smooth finish between your walls and ceilings. To properly install crown molding, the corners must be cut a certain way. Using a compound miter saw will get the job done the right way in just a few steps.

Instructions

Outside corners

1. Set the bevel angle of the miter saw to 33.85 degrees.

2. Set the saw miter blade to 31.62 degrees. This should be an angle toward the left.

3. Place the crown molding on the saw table with the decorative side facing upward. The flat side of the molding should be against the back of the miter saw table. The junk end of the the molding should be on your left side.

4. Cut the molding.

Inside Corners

1. Set the saw bevel angle of the miter saw to 33.85 degrees.

2. Set the angle of the miter saw blade to 31.62 degrees. This angle should be toward the right.

3. Place the molding on the saw table with the decorative portion of the molding facing up. The scrap end should be on your right. Position the flat side of the molding against the back of the saw table.

4. Make the cut. You will keep the right side of the cut.

5. Adjust the miter angle 31.62 degrees toward the left.

6. Place the molding on the table. The flat side will be against the back of the table. The decorative side will face upward. The junk side will be on your right.

7. Make the cut. Keep the right side.
