How to Unlock a Mio 310X

Make your Mio GPS more useful.

Make your Mio GPS unit into a Windows based PDA. The Mio 310x is the updated version of the Mio C310; it provides upgraded mapping software and a easier-to-navigate user interface. It is a 3.5-inch device with a Windows-based operating system that is locked into the GPS software and a built in MP3 player. The GPS can be unlocked to gain access to the Windows interface and use Windows-based applications.

Things You'll Need

• Paper clip
• Computer
• USB cable

Instructions

1. Reset the Mio GPS by pushing a pointed object such as a paper clip into the reset hole while simultaneously holding down the two middle keys at the right of the unit. Hold the buttons until the GPS resets, you hear a chime and an "Error" message states that "There is no DM in SD Card" then select OK. When prompted to copy Map files select "No."

2. Download the ActiveSync software from Microsoft and the C310Auto_mg.zip file. Connect the Mio GPS to your computer with a USB cable. Select "No" if the computer system requests to "Setup Partnership" then click "Next."

3. Extract the C310Auto_mg.zip file on to your computer and copy all the files that are extracted to the Mio's Storage card folder. Once the files are copied to the GPS unit use the Mio interface and select "Start," then "Programs" and then "Windows Explorer." Double click "Storage Card" and then move down and select "C310Auto" to get the Mio to reboot.

4. Click on the gray button at the bottom of the screen to access the Windows icons and their purposes. Verify that the icons are working correctly. The Mio 310x can be reset to the manufacture settings by using the power buttons at the bottom of the device.

Tips & Warnings

• Unlocking the Mio GPS can cause it to crash and make it unable to be repaired
