How to Update the GPS in a Lincoln Aviator

Update the Lincoln Aviator's navigation system to get the most current street and highway information.

Many accessories and features can be added when purchasing a new vehicle, such as the Lincoln Aviator. Such options may include a GPS navigation system that can assist a driver with turn-by-turn directions to many destinations. This GPS system also includes millions of points of interest, such as nearby entertainment, restaurants and emergency services. Once per year, NAVTEQ releases map updates for the Lincoln Aviator's GPS system. These updates can be bought at the company's online store and installed by inserting the update disc into the system.

Instructions

1. Go to the NAVTEQ website. Click on "Store -- Buy a Map Update." Using the drop-down menus on the left, choose "Built-in, Factory Installed." Select "Lincoln," then "Aviator," and choose the vehicle's year.

2. Click "Add to Cart" and "Checkout." As of November 2010, map updates are priced at $199. Complete the order, and an update disc is sent to the address you provide for the order.

3. Start the Lincoln Aviator's engine, and power on the navigation system. Insert the disc into the system's disc drive.

4. Enter the authentication code printed on the disc package. If the code is correct, the update begins automatically. Remove the disc when the update is complete.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not turn off the vehicle or remove the disc during the update. This may damage the navigation system.
