How to Track Running Mileage
Whether you are run for personal enjoyment, fitness reasons or to train for competition, it can be helpful to learn how to track your mileage. Tracking how far you have run helps you determine how much your endurance or speed has increased, where your limits presently are and even how often you need to purchase new running shoes. Tracking your mileage does not require you to buy expensive equipment.

1
Attach a pedometer to yourself when you run. Pedometers are devices that count the number of steps you have made and then translate that data into reports on things like how many calories you have burned and how far you have run. Pedometers come in a variety of styles and sizes and can be worn on your waistband or even on your shoe.
-
2
Wear a heart rate monitor that has a mileage function or GPS. Like pedometers, these devices can be set to help you realize how far you have run in a particular session.
-
-
3
Conduct your running sessions on a track. Tracks have a standardized length of a quarter mile per lap, so you will know that for every four laps you finish, you have run one mile.
-
4
Use a site such as Google Maps' pedometer site or MapMyRun.com. Here, you can map a specific route that you like to run in your area and have the personalized mileage information provided for you.
