Disconnecting a Ford F-150 horn is not as easy as it may seem.

There are times when a horn relay sticks, causing the horn to continually blow, and it would be helpful to know how it is disconnected. Other times, the horn will not blow and needs to be removed and replaced. The 1997 Ford F-150 does not make either job easy. The fuses are not named on the fuse panel; they are numbered. Further, the horn is well hidden. Both jobs, replacing the fuse or the horn, require research and preparation.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the fuse panel access door, located to the lower left-hand side of the steering wheel, mounted on the trim panel. Under the panel are the fuses.

    • 2

Remove the horn fuse. Locate fuse number 5, near the top row. This is the horn fuse. Pull the fuse out to disable the horn circuit.

    • 3

Raise the hood of the truck, and use a wrench to loosen and remove the battery cables, then remove the battery. The horn is located under the passenger side headlight, mounted on the radiator core support. Removing the battery opens an access area to reach the horn.

    • 4

Unplug the horn wire harness, and use a wrench to remove the mounting bolt that attaches the horn to the core support.
