How to Install the Laser Scanner of a HP Color Laserjet 5500
Although your operating system might recognize the printer from an HP Color Laserjet 5500 multifunctional printer, it isn't equipped with the proper software to operate your scanner unless you install the driver from HP's website. Scanners use light and sensors to reproduce the image of a two-dimensional document in a digital format, either for making copies or for storing in a computer.

Go to HP's Laserjet 5500 driver download page.

Click on your operating system's link.

Choose one of the drivers under "HP -- Universal Print Driver" and click the "Download" link next to it. Choose where to save your file.

Double-click the file from its location and follow the installation instructions until you successfully finish.
