How to Post a Job Position

Job boards for nearly every profession are online. National and international job boards attract even more job seekers. Decide on a few job boards to use to post your job so that you can focus on attracting a certain type and number of candidates. If your job posting is all over the Internet, it may be difficult to remember where you posted the job in order to take it down after a candidate has been hired as well as to keep up with the various online accounts and payment systems for each one.

Instructions

    • 1

Write a detailed job description in a word processing program, and save it to your computer. Include information about your company, to whom application materials should be addressed, required and preferred qualifications, job responsibilities, salary and benefit information (if desired) and any other material you would like candidates to know about the job.

    • 2

Write a list of the places where you would like your job posting to appear. Some places include national job boards like Career Builder, Yahoo! Hot Jobs and Monster (SnagaJob and GrooveJob are also good for part-time jobs); trade magazines' online editions; professional associations' websites; and specialty job boards for your particular industry.

    • 3

Click on an option such as "Post a Job" or "Employers" when you visit the website on which you want to post. Follow the instructions on the screen to create an employer account.

    • 4

Choose the type of pricing package you want. Some may come in a bundle, say, a specific number of jobs for a set amount. You may also be able to purchase just one job posting, although the per-unit cost is likely to be higher. On Monster, for example, you can buy a time frame for your job to be posted, a mile radius from your location so that job seekers in a metro area can find you or get a lower price if advertising hourly jobs (as of November 2010).

Enter your job posting information, based on information from the job description you wrote. Cut and paste information from your saved job description on your computer to save time entering the information. CareerBuilder offers the option to screen resumes before they are sent to you. You can choose to screen applicants based on their qualifications and experience before their resumes land in your inbox. Click "Submit" or a similarly-worded command at the end of the job entry form to publish your job.
