How to Donate a Vehicle to Charity in Oklahoma
If you have a vehicle in Oklahoma that you do not want to keep, do not need and do not want to try to sell on your own, you can just donate the vehicle to a charity instead. Charities throughout the state of Oklahoma accept car donations, which means you can donate a vehicle in large cities like Oklahoma City and smaller areas like Elk City. When you donate a vehicle to a charitable organization, you can claim the donation on your taxes, which lowers your tax liability.

1
Apply for a duplicate Oklahoma title, if you cannot find your current vehicle title. You can download the application from the Oklahoma Tax Commission website. You can submit the application in person at an Oklahoma Tax Commission office or by mail using the address on the form. As of November 2010, the duplicate title fee is $11 and if mailed, there is an additional $1.50 fee.

2
Look up the fair market value of your vehicle on the Kelley Blue Book website, if you intend to claim the donation on your taxes. Just enter your Oklahoma zip code to get the most accurate value amount. If the vehicle is worth more than $5,000, you should have it professionally appraised by a car appraiser in Oklahoma.

Use a specialized car donation organization, such as Cars 4 Causes, or find Oklahoma charities on the Charity Vault website. With Cars 4 Causes, you can select a charity from their list to benefit from your donation. If you want to donate direct, which is of greater benefit to the Oklahoma charity, you can do so. Some Oklahoma charities that accept car donations include the Oklahoma Boys & Girls Club, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Oklahoma chapter of the Salvation Army. Local charities, such as churches in Oklahoma, often accept car donations as well.

4
Contact the charity you are interested in donating to using the contact details on the Charity Vault website or on the Cars 4 Causes website. If using Cars 4 Causes, you let them know what type of vehicle you have and select your charity. For any other charities, you need to verify that they have a current need for car donations and are actively accepting them. If not, select another charity.

5
Make arrangements to get your donation to the charity. With Cars 4 Causes, you must schedule an appointment for the vehicle to be picked up. Other charities typically offer tow away service as well, but you can take the car to the charity yourself. You just need to find out the hours that the donation center accepts vehicle donations.

6
Sign over your Oklahoma vehicle title to the charity. Doing this transfers the ownership from you to the charity. When you give your title to the charity, you can ask for a donation receipt, which can be used to claim the donation on your taxes.
