How to Mount a Video Screen on a Dashboard thumbnail
Most dash mounts can only hold a smaller television of about seven inches.

Mounting a video screen on the dashboard of your car can be done in just a few minutes. While having video in your car can be a great way to pass the time on long road trips or while you're waiting in traffic, keep in mind that they're not meant to entertain the driver while driving. In fact, some states have laws on where you can put your video screen, so checking the laws in your state should be part of the installation process.

Instructions

Research the laws in your state regarding dash-mounted video screens. There are restrictions on video screens in some states, so be sure you know the laws. Some states allow the use of video equipment in a vehicle, so long as it is not visible to the driver while the car is moving.

Purchase a dash-mount bracket. Typically, dash-mounted brackets are for smaller video screens of seven inches or less, so if you already have a video screen, be sure it will fit with your bracket. Your monitor should have a slide mount on the back, or a screw-in feature in the bottom of it to work with brackets, so be sure it does.

Install the dash mount bracket at the chosen location using the adhesive provided with the bracket. As a more secure alternative, follow the bracket manufacturer's instructions for screwing the bracket into the dash. Before you try to install the monitor, test the bracket's strength by hanging a weighted bag from it.

Slide or screw the monitor onto the bracket, depending on the features of your monitor. Secure any screws that fasten the monitor to the bracket.
