How to Check the Backlight on the Acer Aspire 3690

A dark or blank laptop screen is often caused by a loose backlight cable. This cable can be found within the screen case and is easy to reattach. However, taking apart a laptop screen can be damaging if performed incorrectly. If you are uncomfortable taking apart your laptop, it is best to leave this task to a computer repair specialist. However, if you find fixing computers to be a piece of cake, this quick fix will take a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut down your laptop. Unplug the power cord. Remove the battery.

    • 2

Pop off the screw covers on the four corners of the screen frame. These can be removed using the edge of a flat head screwdriver. Place them in a cup or bowl to keep them from getting lost.

    • 3

Unscrew the frame. Place the screws in the cup along with the covers.

    • 4

Remove the screen frame. Do not tug or pull hard if there is any resistance. Work gently to make sure that the screen and frame remain undamaged.

    • 5

Locate the green board below the screen. To the right side of this board will be the backlight cable. Follow the cable to find its connection port. If the cable is loose, secure it into the connection port using your fingers. Once the cable is reattached, reassemble the screen.
