How to Convert an EGA to VGA

Enhanced graphics adapter (EGA), is a computer display port first introduced in 1984. EGA is capable of displaying up to 16 colors at a time and a resolution of 640 by 350 pixels. Video graphics array (VGA), first introduced in 1987, is capable of displaying a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels with 16 colors. VGA also had a more advanced color palette to choose from, producing richer and more vibrant pictures. If you have an old arcade game or computer that you wish to display on a newer monitor, you will need to convert the EGA to a VGA signal.

Instructions

      Purchase an EGA to VGA converter board.

    • 2

      Connect your EGA cable to the EGA port on your source computer or arcade game. Connect the other end of your EGA cable to the EGA port on the EGA to VGA converter.

      Attach the VGA cable to the VGA port on the EGA to VGA converter. Connect the other end of the VGA cable to the VGA port on your new monitor.

  • Generally, EGA to VGA a converter is unavailable in most stores as it is specialized equipment and not purchased frequently enough to keep in stock, so you may have to purchase it online.
