How to Make Solid Sugar Scrubs

Create your own solid sugar scrub cubes with sugar found in your own kitchen.

Solid sugar scrubs help remove dead surface skin cells and give your skin a healthy glow. Homemade solid sugar scrubs contain fewer chemicals and are less abrasive than the ones found in stores. Making your own solid sugar scrubs is also less expensive. The best part of making your own is that you can customize your favorite scent and color. Keep them for yourself or fill a pretty jar with solid sugar scrubs to give as a gift.

Things You'll Need

• 11 ounces soap base, in your favorite color
• 2 cups of granulated sugar
• 4 ounces Jojoba oil
• ¼ teaspoon Vitamin E oil
• ¼ teaspoon essential oil, in your choice of scent.
• Measuring cups & spoons
• Double boiler
• Wooden spoon to combine
• Rectangular soap mold
• Cutting board
• Knife

Instructions

1. Set up the double boiler according to manufacturer's directions and place on the stove.

2. Put the soap base in the double boiler and set the heat to medium.

3. Allow the soap base to melt completely and turn off the heat.

4. Pour in the sugar and oils. Mix quickly with a wooden spoon to combine, the mixture should be of the same consistency as cookie dough.

5. Fill the soap mold with the mixture and pack firmly to remove air bubbles.

6. Run a knife across the top of the mold to even out the top and remove excess mixture.

7. Allow setting for one hour and gently unmold the bar onto a cutting board.

8. Cut the bar into one-inch cubes and allow for drying overnight.

9. Store in an airtight container to retain freshness.

Tips & Warnings

• Substitute brown sugar in the recipe to create a different type of solid sugar scrub.
