How to Adjust the Firmware Settings on a Modem to Work With Comcast
If you are using Comcast as your Internet Service Provider, or ISP, you may be interested in changing and setting your preferences when it comes to Internet accessibility and settings. If you have a router along with your Comcast modem, you can also set the preferences directly to that as well, helping you setup your Internet service exactly how you want it.

Locate your computer router's default IP address, as this will allow you to configure your Internet settings with your entire Internet network. Reference your router's user manual or guide, or locate the default IP address by using a credible router IP address website (see References).

Open your computer's default Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Enter the router's default IP address into the search bar of your Internet browser, along with the default login and password of your router, which can also be found in your router's reference manual or by using an IP address website (References).

Edit and set your desired preferences and Internet settings when utilizing your modem and router while using Comcast's services. From these default setting pages, you can set your Internet restrictions, privacy controls and Internet timers to control when your family has access to the Internet. You can also set up special times for specific computers or Internet devices, limiting certain members of your household to specific websites and access times.

Click "Save" at the bottom of each page you are setting new preferences to in order to full apply them to your modem and to your Comcast Internet settings. You can exit the page when you are finished to fully complete the task of finalizing and setting new preferences.
