How to Troubleshoot a Linksys & Averatec N1000

Knowing some simple troubleshooting procedures is an essential skill for any empowered home Internet user. A lack of Internet connectivity, slow Internet speeds, or an intermittently dropping connection are among the most common issues experienced by home Internet networks. Networking devices like those made by Linksys are simple enough that even the least technically inclined can troubleshoot these problems effectively. In addition, troubleshooting on the software side is made easy with the Averatec N1000 laptop's intuitive design and user-friendliness.

Instructions

    • 1

Reset your home network by unplugging the power cord from your Linksys device as well as from any other home networking equipment you use in conjunction with the Linksys. After 30 seconds, plug all power cords back in and allow them to fully reboot. Recheck the Internet connection and check for any improvement.

Secure the ethernet cable that attaches the Linksys device to the Averatec's ethernet port. Ethernet cables look very similar to telephone cables and the process of unplugging and replugging ethernet cables mirrors that of telephone cords. Secure any loose connections and recheck for connectivity on the Averatec.

Navigate to the computer's network connections manager by clicking the "Start" menu and clicking "Control Panel." Depending on which version of Windows is installed on the Averatec N1000, you will either click "Network Connections" or "Network and Sharing Center" (if you chose "Network and Sharing Center" you will need to additionally click either "Manage Network Connections" or "Change Adapter Settings" to see all available network connections).

    • 4

Repair the connection by right-clicking the network connection icon that corresponds to your Internet service and clicking "Repair" or "Diagnose." If you use a hard-wired ethernet connection from the Linksys device to the Averatec, the "Local Area Connection" icon represents your connection. If you are using a Linksys wireless router, look for a wireless network called "Linksys" or, if you gave your wireless network a custom name, look for an icon with that name. A pop-up window should appear saying whether or not the computer was able to repair the connection; if so try to connect to the Internet again. If not, your Internet service may be down and you will need to contact the technical support department of your Internet service provider for further assistance.
