Sending an SMS to a landline can be an interesting way to communicate with friends and family.

SMS, which stands for Short Message Service, is a common feature found with most cell phones. Text messages are a quick way to contact your friends, family or colleagues; however, many think they can only send SMS messages directly to cell phones. Press the send button on the website or on the cell phone. When the message is sent, the landline will ring. When answered, the SMS message will be read aloud to the receiver through an automatic text-to-voice service. If the receiver does not answer, the SMS message will be recorded on their voicemail, if available.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use shorthand when sending an SMS message to a landline since it is read by an automated service. Write, "Will be at your house at five thirty" instead of "Will b @ ur house @ 530".

  • Don't send a multimedia message (MMS) to a landline. It will not be sent.
