How to Connect a BlackBerry 8310 to Linux thumbnail
The Blackberry Curve 8310 can transfer files to Linux distributions using a USB interface.

Research in Motion (RIM) does not support file transfer with any Linux distribution. Until RIM develops or allows development of drivers for the Linux kernel, full synching is not an option. But you can transfer files to and from your Blackberry 8310's SD card. This solution will not back up your contacts or your emails -- you need to rely on your company's enterprise server -- but you can load MP3s and photos to your phone to enjoy the multimedia capabilities of your Blackberry Curve.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove your phone's battery cover and install the micro SD card. Power on the phone and make sure it recognizes the new SD card. Enable media card support by going to "Settings," then "Options," then select "Media Card." Set "Media Card Support" and "Mass Storage Mode Support" to "On."

    • 2

Plug the phone into your Linux computer using a USB cable (mini-to-standard). Linux should auto-detect the phone as a "Mass Storage" device, similar to a flash drive or external hard drive.

    • 3

Transfer files to and from the media card as you would any other drive in Linux. Deleting files from the SD card is permanent.
