How to Test the SQL Connection From Another Computer Without a Client Tool

The SQL Client Tool lets an I.T. administrator test a computer's connection to the SQL Server, for purposes of network and security account troubleshooting. However, if you don't have an installed SQL Client Tool, you will need to use another method of testing.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to the Windows computer using an account with administrative privileges.

    • 2

Click "Start" and select "Control Panel."

    • 3

Click "Administrative Tools" and click on "Data Sources."

    • 4

Click "Add," select "SQL Server" and click on "Finish."

    • 5

Enter the details of the SQL Server and click "Next."

    • 6

Click "Test Data Source" to test the client connectivity to the SQL Server.
