How to Use a Vidal Sassoon Fan Tail

Vidal Sassoon, creator and marketer of various hair products and tools, is the maker of the Fan Tail. The Fan Tail is a circular, hard plastic hair accessory that creates a deliberately messy ponytail look when used correctly. Putting it into hair to create a great style takes time and practice as well as carefully following the instructions.

Things You'll Need

• Elastic band
• Vidal Sassoon Fan Tail

Instructions

1. Pull your hair back into a ponytail. Secure it with an elastic band.

2. Hold your ponytail up in one hand and put the Fan Tail over the base of the ponytail next to the elastic band. Do not put your ponytail through the middle of the Fan Tail.

3. Twist the Fan Tail back and forth so that outer hooks go into the base of the ponytail. This anchors the Fan Tail into the ponytail.

4. Pull part of your ponytail through the center of the Fan Tail. Twist more to secure to the hair.

5. Tease or backcomb the part of the ponytail that is pulled through the Fan Tail to fluff it and hide the Fan Tail.

6. Insert small random sections of the rest of the ponytail into the various teeth and hooks of the Fan Tail to create a deliberately messy style.
