How to Debadge a Jeep

The dealership and manufacturer badges that come on a Jeep Wrangler can be damaged over time as the vehicle ages. The badges may fade, crack and chip with age. Chances are, if you are repainting your Jeep or want to keep it looking as new as possible, you will ultimately want to remove the original badges from the vehicle. Jeep badges can be tricky to remove, because on some Jeeps, there are both sticker-type badges and metal badges.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive on the back of the badge. If you are removing a metal decal, this may take several minutes. If you are removing a sticker-type decal, it will probably start to curl and peel in under a minute.

    • 2

Peel the badge off by sliding the blade of a plastic knife between the decal and the paint. The badge should come off with minimal pressure applied. You can also use fishing line or dental floss to slide under the badge and gently saw it off the vehicle.

    • 3

Clean the area where the badge was, making sure to remove all debris and adhesive left behind.

Tips & Warnings

  • A heat gun should only be used by an experienced adult.
