How to Use a Tasco 900X60mm Luminova Refractor Telescope
The Tasco Luminova telescope lets you observe the wonders of the night sky from your backyard. This refractor telescope features a two-lens optical design that captures the faint light of distant astronomical objects. It provides 60mm of light-gathering aperture and has a 900mm focal length. This telescope includes an aluminum tripod, a finder scope, three magnifying eyepieces and a 3x Barlow lens. Use the Tasco Luminova refractor telescope to observe the moon, planets and stars.
Things You'll Need
- Telescope
- Tripod
- Finder scope
- 25mm eyepiece
- 12.5mm eyepiece
- 4mm eyepiece
Instructions
-
-
1
Extend the three legs on the aluminum tripod to an equal height. Tighten the locking screws on each leg. Stand the tripod upright on a level surface.
-
2
Attach the telescope tube to the tripod. Insert the telescope's mounting bracket into the tripod mount and tighten the restraining knobs to secure it in place.
-
-
3
Insert the 25mm eyepiece into the focuser. Tighten the restraining screw to hold the eyepiece in place.
-
4
Aim the telescope at an astronomical target. A 60mm scope works best with bright objects such as the moon, planets and stars. Observing fainter objects, such as galaxies and nebula, requires dark skies and detailed star charts.
-
5
Look through the finder scope. Move the telescope tube up or down and left or right to center the object in the finder scope.
-
6
Look through the 25mm eyepiece and turn the focuser knob to sharpen the image.
-
7
Remove the 25mm eyepiece and insert the 12.5mm or 4mm eyepiece to increase the magnification. You also can use an eyepiece in combination with the 3x Barlow lens to triple its magnifying power.

Tips & Warnings
Divide the focal length of the telescope by the focal length of the eyepiece to calculate the magnification. For example, the 25mm eyepiece provides 36x magnification.
Multiply the focal length of the telescope by the magnification of the Barlow lens to calculate the magnification when using the Barlow lens with an eyepiece. Then divide the product by the focal length of the eyepiece. For example, the 25mm eyepiece provides 75x magnification when used with the 3x Barlow.
Telescopes typically perform best at magnifications below 150x. Although the Tasco Luminova can achieve higher magnifications, the unsteadiness of the atmosphere will likely degrade the image when using magnifications above 150x.
Observing the sun through a telescope will permanently damage your vision.
