How to Use Liquid Starch to Get the Best Results
Though it is most often used to give ironed clothing a crisp, fresh look, liquid starch also can be used for a variety of craft and decorative projects. Using preformulated starch from a spray can may seem more convenient to many homemakers, but liquid starch is more economical. It also allows you to mix a light or heavy starch as the need arises. Combine starch and water in a spray bottle, according to manufacturer's directions. Typically, equal parts of starch and water are used. Shake well to mix.

Spray the item to be ironed until it is saturated and almost dripping wet. Wring out any excess liquid starch.

Lay the item on a flat surface. Allow it to dry.

Set your iron to the steam setting. Turn the item inside-out, or iron fabric pieces on the wrong side, in case white flecks of starch appear on the material. Iron as usual.

Tips & Warnings
Don't store starched items without ironing them first. Liquid starch is typically made from corn starch and may attract pests.
Cover your ironing board with a cloth or scrap of fabric before pressing a starched item. Some starch can build up on your ironing board cover and cause a brown stain.
Wipe a hot iron with a cloth dampened in vinegar to remove starch build-up.
Make your own liquid starch by mixing 1 tbsp. of cornstarch with 1/4 cup of very cold water. Bring
3 3/4 cups tap water to a boil and slowly stir in the cornstarch slurry. Remove the mixture from the heat. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil or the juice of half a lemon for a fresh scent.
