A Baby Lock binding attachment makes applying bias tape quick and simple.

The Baby Lock company has created high-quality sewing machines and sergers for more than 40 years, and revolutionized the sewing industry with their introduction of serger overlock machines designed specifically for home use. The company went further and brought special serger attachments and features to the sewing market, making serging even more convenient and useful. Baby Lock currently offers a multitude of serger accessories, including attachments that sew binding to both sides of your project in a quick, simple step.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the binder attachment foot to the front of the Baby Lock serger. Place the long oval hole on the right side of the attachment over the matching hole on the front edge of the serger, in front of the needle plate. Place the two screws that came with the foot on the right-most and left-most sides of the oval and screw into place by turning clockwise. Turn both screws tightly enough that the binder attachment foot doesn't move. Thread your serger according to manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Open the folds of bias tape and feed it into the tall flat opening on the right siade of the bias binding attachment foot. The wrong side of the bias tape should be facing left. Pull the bias tape through the rest of the bias binding attachment foot. Because of the structure of the foot, the bias tape will refold itself when it comes out of the front of the foot. Pull the folded bias tape out of the front of the foot.

    • 3

Raise the serger's presser foot by pulling the black lever on the back of the serger up. Pull the folded bias tape until it rests under the presser foot. Set your Baby Lock to a wide cover stitch, set the stitch length to 4 mm and disengage your cutting knife according to your manufacturer's instructions. Adjust the bias tape so its left edge lines up 1/8 inch to the left of the right-side needle.

    • 4

Feed the fabric you want to attach the bias tape to into the fabric guide of the bias binding attachment foot, located on the left side of the foot. Pull the fabric up until it rests under the presser foot. Wrap the folded bias tape around the right raw edge of your fabric. Lower the presser foot.

    • 5

Turn the serger's flywheel, located on the right side of the machine, toward you so the serger sews three to four stitches to anchor the bias tape in place. Start serging slowly, checking your seams to make sure they catch both sides of the bias tape. Complete sewing the bias tape to your project, stopping to feed more bias tape into the binder foot as necessary.
