How to Get a Sound Bar Back

The system volume icon that shows a sound bar on your Windows computer is located next to the clock in the right corner of the taskbar. You can easily adjust the volume using this shortcut. If the system icons are not enabled, you might not see it. In addition, malware programs can disable this icon. Fortunately, you can restore this and other system icons by changing Windows notification area settings.

Instructions

1. Right-click the taskbar in a blank space and select "Properties."

2. Click the "Taskbar" tab in the new window and then the "Customize" button under "Notification Area."

3. Click "Turn system icons on or off" in the "Notification Area" window. Click and select "On" in the "Behaviors" drop-down menu next to "Volume."

4. Click "OK" to close the window.

Tips & Warnings

• Run the Windows System File Checker if the described method didn't fix the problem. Go to the "Start" menu, type "cmd" in the "Start Search" box and press "Enter" to start the command prompt. Type "sfc.exe /scannow" and press "Enter" to scan the system. Restart your computer after the process is finished. Enable the volume system icon back on as described in the steps.
