How to Get Started Selling Online

How to Get Started Selling Online thumbnail
Several products are regularly sold through the Internet.

Anyone selling products has to consider the Internet as a viable marketplace. Internet advertising helps many producers and distributors sell things online. Marketers also have the option to open an Internet store to sell stuff online without creating or buying a website. Products vary from used items like books, CDs, DVDs, video games and systems to newly manufactured merchandise and homemade goods. Some sellers clear their homes of unwanted items through Internet sales while others run thriving businesses by selling on the web.

Instructions

    • 1

Shoot professional-quality photographs of your products, or pay a photographer to take photos for you. Convert the photos to jpegs if necessary and store them in your computer for simple uploading to online advertisers and stores.

    • 2

Post advertisements through online classifieds for selling products locally, nationally and multi-nationally. (See Resources.) Take advantage of free Internet advertising with product descriptions and photos through online classified advertisers.

    • 3

Create an online store by registering with one of the Internet marketplace websites that give or rent space to sellers. (See Resources.) Some online stores are free to sellers, while other websites charge fees for each listing and/or each sale. Upload photos and write descriptions of your products to sell things online to visitors who shop at the marketplace websites.

Tips & Warnings

  • Professional photos help marketers sell stuff online, but professional photographers can be expensive. Ask a photography student to shoot professional quality photos of your products for a reduced fee.
