The Registry Editor is a tool created by Microsoft and included with all versions of the Windows operating system. The Registry Editor is designed to allow users to edit the registry. Editing the registry is a technical process that should not be attempted by inexperienced users. Editing the registry incorrectly can cause significant system-wide errors. Note that the steps described apply to the Windows Vista and 7 operating systems.

      Click "Start," type "Run" into the "Search" box and press "Enter." The Run tool opens.

      Type "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f" (without the quotation marks) into the dialog box, and click "OK."

      Restart your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • To open the Registry Editor, click "Start," type "regedit" into the "Search" box and press "Enter."

  • Some computer viruses, including Rontokbro, are designed to disable the Registry Editor. Thus, consider running your antivirus program in addition to the aforementioned steps.
