How to Use a Pressurized Sandblaster
Using a pressurized sandblaster is a simple task that nearly any adult can perform. The most important part about the sandblasting machine is making sure that the machine has enough pressure to shoot the blasting media out from the blaster at high pressure and speed. It's also important to take all necessary safety precautions when working with the sandblasting machine.

- Tarp
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
- Dust mask or respirator mask
- Sand or other blasting media
- Broom

Set the sandblaster to the appropriate pressure setting in pounds per square inch (psi). For most tasks, 60 to 70 psi should work without causing damage to the surface. If you're unsure of the correct psi setting for the material you'll blast, test several different settings on a similar material to determine the correct setting.

Place a tarp under the item that you'll work on with the pressurized sandblaster. Put on eye and ear protection, and a dust mask or respirator, to protect yourself.

Open the sandblaster tank and fill the blaster with sand or other media to the fill line. Close the tank. Close all other valves and seal the tank by pulling on the sealing ring.

Turn on the sandblaster. Open all of the valves except for the nozzle valve, which should be opened last. The machine should drive the blasting media out from the nozzle valve.

Aim the nozzle at the item that you want to sandblast. Hold the nozzle about 10 inches away from the surface, then spray the sand in a back-and-forth sweeping motion. Spray the surface of the item until all paint is removed or the surface is smooth. Add more media as necessary to blast the entire object.

Turn off the machine when you're finished and empty the holding tank of filler media. Use a broom to sweep up media particles from the floor when you're finished with the blasting process.

Take care not to aim the blaster at yourself or other people. The sand particles can rip the skin from your body.
