If you use a wheelchair, you can get a handicapped mirror plaque.

If you have difficulty walking very far or use a wheelchair or cane, you may qualify for a handicapped mirror plaque. A handicapped mirror plaque allows you to park in designated handicapped parking spaces, so you do not have to walk so far from your car to your destination. Regulations regarding handicapped mirror plaques vary somewhat from state to state, so check with the department of motor vehicles in your state for more information. You must obtain a handicapped mirror plaque from the department of motor vehicles in the state in which you live.

      Visit your local department of motor vehicles office and pick up an application for a handicapped mirror plaque. In some states, you also can download one online if you prefer.

      Complete the part of the application that requests information from you. Sign the application.

      Take the application to your doctor and ask him to fill out the rest of the form. Make sure he signs it.

      Return the completed application to your local department of motor vehicles to get your handicapped mirror plaque.

      Pay the required fee if applicable; some states do not charge a fee for a handicapped mirror plaque.
