Chin strap beards, which are also known as Donegals, are a type of beard that grows thinly along the jawline and is attached from ear to ear by sideburns. In order to grow a chin strap beard, a man must first grow a full beard. This beard is then thinned out in order to achieve the desired look. Things You'll Need
- Mild facial cleanser
- Warm water
- Small pair of scissors
- Shaving cream or gel
- Moisturizer or aftershave

Grow a full beard and mustache. Depending upon your particular rate of hair growth, this process could take several weeks.

Wash your face with mild facial cleanser, which does not contain perfumes or dyes. This will soften the skin and prepare it for being shaved.

Trim down the beard hair on the cheeks and around the jawline with a small pair of scissors until the desired thickness of the chin strap beard is reached. This will give you a line to follow during the shaving process and will make shaving much quicker. You may need to trim the hair under the chin as well.

Apply a thin layer of shaving cream or gel to the face.

Shave away the hair on the cheeks until there is a thin strip of hair that reaches from ear to ear.

Shave the mustache, if desired.

Wash away the shaving cream with warm water. Apply a moisturizer or aftershave to chin and cheeks. This will help prevent razor burn.

Leave the hair longer underneath the chin in order to form a point or any other shape with the use of pomade or mustache wax.
