GPS systems can be more useful when mounted.

Garmin global positioning system (GPS) devices provide a plethora of information in a small package. They can be taken virtually anywhere and used on the go. One way to mount a Garmin in your vehicle is to use a windshield mount. Sometimes local laws prohibit the fixture of GPS units to the windshield because they can obstruct the driver's view. If you are in a region where these laws affect you, or you simply don't want anything hanging from your windshield, the Garmin Friction Mount can work well.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the friction mount on your dashboard in a convenient location with the grip side down. If the surface is soiled, clean it with standard, non-oily glass cleaner and let it dry thoroughly before attaching the mount.

    • 2

Insert the ball-hitch into the round fixture on top of the friction mount. The ball-hitch is the black plastic hook with the round ball-like shape at the end.

    • 3

Clip the ball receiver mount to your Garmin unit. The ball receiver mount is the black plastic clip that came with your GPS unit.

    • 4

Fix the unit to the friction mount by pushing the ball hitch into the receiver on the back of the unit.

    • 5

Adjust the unit by rotating the base of the ball hitch or swiveling the unit on the ball mount. Lock the base of the ball hitch once you've found the proper position by sliding the "Lock" switch to the right.
