How to Create a Free Advertisement

How to Create a Free Advertisement thumbnail
An effective ad doesn't need to be showy to generate interest.

It's easy to create a free advertisement, but getting people to notice it is more difficult. Getting an ad together and placing it somewhere with a big readership or audience will not guarantee results. Your ad has to reach people, otherwise however brilliantly written you think the ad may be, all of your efforts working on it will be for naught. Free ads have been around a long time, but composing an ad that catches people's attention remains an acquired skill.

Instructions

    • 1

Make notes of what you could sell or promote by using a free advertisement, and think of where you can place your ad. Run through all the things that you can think of possibly selling, and gradually tick off the ones with the least potential. If you can't narrow things down to less than a few things, work out how you can create an ad including all these things. If you are promoting an event, think up keywords that you think will pull people in.

    • 2

Look at other advertisements and take note of what grabs your attention. Study specifically the text in the first few lines. Judge what you think works and what doesn't, and endeavor to not make the mistakes you think are in the latter.

    • 3

Think about your target audience members and ways in which you can appeal to them. The potential of a free ad can only be really maximized if you have thought about who is going to see it and what it is that you have to offer.

    • 4

Create your advertisement. Try and keep it concise with no rambling. You want to grab people's attention in just the first few words.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use your writing skill and put yourself in the shoes of someone looking at your ad. But don't make the ad too verbose. After you've composed your ad, come back in a few hours and review it.

  • A free ad is unlikely to get you the same response as a paid ad would, but you can still get surprising results if you compose your ad in the right way.
