DIY Bay Rum

Make bay rum aftershave at home with vodka and rum.

Aftershaves help to keep the skin smooth, and they contain a light fragrance. Aftershave contains alcohol because it acts as a disinfectant and astringent. Commercial aftershaves can be expensive to purchase, and they often contain unnecessary preservatives that can irritate sensitive skin. Instead of purchasing commercial products, you can make a homemade bay rum aftershave. Making your own aftershave will save you money.

Things You'll Need

• 1/2 cup vodka
• 2 tbsp. rum
• Glass jar with lid
• 1/4 tsp. allspice
• 1 cinnamon stick
• Bowl
• Colander
• Cheesecloth

Instructions

1. Combine 1/2 cup of vodka with 2 tbsp. of rum in a glass jar.

2. Add 1/4 tsp. allspice and 1 cinnamon stick to the jar.

3. Secure a lid on the jar. Store it in a cool and dark location for two weeks.

4. Place a bowl under a colander. Line the colander with cheesecloth. Strain the aftershave through the cheesecloth.

5. Pour the bay rum aftershave into the glass jar. Secure the lid on the jar and use it as needed.

Tips & Warnings

• Add the zest from a citrus fruit to add a pleasant scent to the aftershave.

• Avoid using metal utensils because it can cause a reaction with the ingredients used to make the aftershave.
