How to Hook Up a Utility Trailer

Use the trailer to raise the trailer's tongue, which needs to be higher than the top of the tow ball on the tow vehicle.

Check the size of the tow ball on the vehicle, which is engraved on the ball. Make sure this is the same size as the trailer coupler.

Back the tow vehicle under the trailer tongue. Use a helper to safely guide you back.

Open the latch on the trailer and lower the trailer onto the tow ball. Close the latch and insert the safety pin. This will prevent the latch from coming open while towing the trailer. Use the trailer jack for this step.

Attach the safety chains from the trailer to the tow vehicle.

Connect the trailer light plug to the tow vehicle light connector and check that all the lights are working correctly.

Tips & Warnings
Add a drop of grease to the top of the tow vehicle's ball prior to connecting the trailer.
Make sure the trailer is loaded evenly to prevent fish-tailing while pulling the trailer.
Do not exceed the tow vehicle's trailer weight capacity or that of the tow vehicle.
