How to Defeat GPS Tracking

How to Defeat GPS Tracking thumbnail
Defeating GPS is relatively easy if you know how the technology works.

Contrary to popular belief, as attested to by law enforcement officials around the nation, GPS does not provide a viable option for tracking. The downfall of GPS is that the technology requires a direct line of sight with three satellites to pinpoint an accurate location. This means GPS in a vehicle or even a cell phone is easily defeated for tracking purposes.

Instructions

    • 1

Park your car in an enclosed garage or an enclosed concrete parking area. This will prevent the GPS in your vehicle from accessing a direct line of sight to the required satellites to pinpoint a location.

    • 2

Turn off your cell phone. If your cell phone is not turned on, the satellites cannot transmit a signal to the phone.

    • 3

Go indoors with your cell phone and stay away from any windows. GPS will not work indoors if it cannot get a direct line of sight to three satellites.

Tips & Warnings

  • Although defeating GPS is relatively easy, defeating other tracking technologies often incorporated with GPS is not. Technologies using various radio waves for tracking along with triangulation on cell phones work alongside GPS to accurately pinpoint your location.
