How to Remove Scratches From Plastic Eyeglass Lenses

Repair scratches in your plastic lenses.

Plastic lenses are a popular option for people purchasing eyeglasses. They are lighter in weight, so they don't cause the glasses to slide down the nose as easily, and they are less likely to break if dropped. Unfortunately, plastic lenses are more prone to scratching than glass ones. If you have very deep scratches you may not be able to help matters: However, you should be able to repair light scratches that occur.

Things You'll Need

• White grease pencil
• Soft buffing cloth

Instructions

1. Clean your eyeglass lenses with a polishing cloth to remove any dust or spots that may camouflage the scratches.

2. Draw a round circle with grease pencil on your eyeglass lens that encompasses the entire scratch. Color in the circle completely with grease pencil.

3. Polish your eyeglass lens with a clean polishing cloth. Rub the lens gently to remove the excess grease pencil while buffing and polishing the plastic.

Tips & Warnings

• This method won't work with deep scratches.

• Do not use this method with anti-reflective lenses. It can make the scratches worse and won't fix the problem.
