How to Dismantle GL2 Lenses

Canon manufactures film and digital SLR cameras as well as consumer and professional camcorders. Its products have allowed hobbyists, students and professionals to produce works of art ranging from photographs and films to multimedia productions. One camcorder that Canon makes is the GL2. The interface of the Canon GL2 allows you to use multiple lenses and lens adapters to expand your filming palate. Before you attach an alternative lens, you need to dismantle the lens of the GL2.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the lens cap. The lens cap is the part of the camera that protects the camera lens from dust, debris and scratches when you are not filming with your camera. It covers the lens by clipping into the side walls that protrude from the edge of the lens. To remove it, pinch the front of lens cap until you feel it unclip from the edge of the lens.

    • 2

Detach the lens hood screws. The lens hood is the part of the camera the extends a couple of inches from the front of the lens and forms a square frame in front of the lens. The purpose of the lens hood is to block out light that could potentially create lens flares from reaching the lens. This creates a cleaner image. Turn the screws on each side of the lens hood by hand counterclockwise to detach the hood.

Remove the lens hood. The lens hood will stay on the camera even without the lens hood screws. Turn the lens hood counterclockwise and pull it off the GL2. This will reveal the lens, which can't be removed. The front of the lens has connectors that will allow you to add other lenses or adapters to the Canon GL2.
