1
Grease your waffle iron using a nonstick cooking spray. You should do this even if your waffle iron comes with nonstick surfaces.
-
2
Measure the amount of batter recommended by your waffle iron's instructions. It is important to use the proper amount of waffle batter. Remember that a waffle expands when cooked. Using the proper amount ensures that there is no messy runoff.

-
3
Pour the waffle batter into the waffle iron. You know that it is time to do this because the waffle iron pre-heat light indicates when the waffle iron is hot enough to be used.
-
4
Spread the waffle batter evenly throughout the waffle iron. You can do this by bringing the top of the waffle iron down, but not closing it, in addition to evenly pouring the batter on the grids.
-
5
Close the waffle iron.
-
6
Wait for the signal from your waffle iron that the waffles are fully cooked. Modern waffle irons leave little in the way of guesswork about when the waffles are done.
