How to Repair Scratched Plastic Sunglasses
Sunglasses are a popular accessory. Their regular use can leave them susceptible to scratches. Fortunately, there are numerous solutions for removing scratches from plastic sunglasses, many of which use common household products. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Warm water
- Soap
- Soft cloth
- Microfiber cloth
- CD/DVD cleaner
- Wood cleaner
- Toothpaste
- Cotton swab
- Armour Etch

Wash your sunglasses in warm, soapy water. Dry completely using a soft cloth.

Spray CD/DVD cleaner directly onto the lens that has been scratched. Wipe the lens off with a microfiber cloth using gentle, circular motions.

Spray wood cleaner, such as Pledge, onto a microfiber cloth. Clean the scratched lens with the cloth using circular motions to buff out the scratch. Remove excess wood cleaner with a clean cloth, then wash the sunglasses with soap and water.

Dab toothpaste directly onto the scratch, and massage it in with a microfiber cloth for 15-20 seconds or until the scratch is removed. Clean the lens with soap and water when finished.

Purchase Armour Etch at your local craft store. Apply an even coat of Armour Etch onto the lens with a cotton swab, and allow it to sit for five minutes. Rinse with hot water for one minute to remove Armour Etch.

Wash sunglasses with warm water and soap after the scratch has been removed. Dry completely with a soft cloth.

Tips & Warnings
When rinsing Armour Etch off the lens with hot water, do not scrub the lens with a cloth. Allow the water to rinse the lens completely clean before washing it again.
Armour Etch is a glass etching product, and should be used in a well ventilated area.
