How to Overhaul a Water Hose Nozzle
Garden hoses are not expensive to replace if the nozzle gets banged out of shape or leaks; however, there is something satisfying in repairing a tool yourself instead of just throwing it away. Repairing is also a "greener" choice for the responsible homeowner than adding another long piece of plastic that will take forever or longer to biodegrade in a landfill. Hose nozzle repair kits are available at your local hardware store. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the size of your hose. Purchase the correct size nozzle. Nozzles come in two types: brass or plastic. Garden hoses typically come in four sizes: 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch. Plastic nozzles can be adjusted for size. Brass nozzles have to be purchased to fit the specific hose size.

2
Cut the nozzle off the hose using a utility knife. Place the knife along the edge where the nozzle is attached to the hose; using the edge as a guide, cut the hose.

3
Place the end of the hose in a bucket of warm, soapy water for 2 minutes. This will soften the rubber to provide a good grip for the new nozzle.
-
4
Attach the nozzle to the hose by inserting the hose end into the nozzle. Allow the hose to cool. As it cools, the rubber should expand, providing a tight fit for the new nozzle. Wrap plumber's tape around the joint to provide a watertight bond.
